Adventures in Aush'nan

Chapter 1 - Freeport and the Magistrate's Daughter ((PART 3))
Into the Wolves' Den

When we last left our heroes at the mouth of the Sigilian Woods, they had just defeated a slightly cunning group of Goblins led by an unnamed Goblin hexer, and had captured said hexer with intentions to interrogate him. However, interrogation proved difficult as the pint-sized goblin had no intentions of divulging any pertinent information. After a few minutes of fruitless attempts by Fletcher and Jacques, Whist became frustrated and decided to use his Psionic abilities to rip the information from hexer’s mind and learned a few interesting facts; the group of goblins he served were led by an apparently fearsome Goblin, however whist was unable to come across a name. Also, the girl they were seeking was, as far as the Goblin knew, unharmed and being kept somewhere deeper into the woods. However, these points withstanding, no major information was gained.

Suddenly, the Goblin in custody, struggled against his bonds was able to free one of his arms and, reaching into his diminutive boot, produced a tiny blade and cut his own throat. Their only lead now dead, the adventurers decide to proceed further into the woods.

As they continued in and the sun began to set over the horizon, they came across a campsite where a rather large bonfire had just been started and was surrounded by a group of rather vicious looking wolves. However, they remained undetected. After careful consideration, it seemed the only way past the wolves was through them and so our heroes launched a successful sneak attack and proceeded to clear the camp. However, as the battle began, one of the wolves, small globs of foam dripping from its jowls, howled and the already good-sized group of wolves were joined by three more Bloodmonger Wolves, one of which had a Goblin Wolfmaster riding on its back. The Wolfmaster began directing the wolves, who readily obeyed his commands. However, by the time this would have made a difference, it was already too late. Many of the weaker, malnourished looking wolves had been promptly dispatched and shortly thereafter, most of the other wolves met the same fate, at the able hands of our eclectic group of heroes. In the end, the Wolfmaster met his fate at the hands of Jacques and the last of the wolves was put down by Grondar’s mighty axe.

The wounds from the battle were mildly severe; Whist sustained several bloody bites, as did Fletcher and Grondar. Jacques had remained in the background of the tree line for most of the battle and did not get too close to any of the assailing beasts. However, little time was needed to patch up and prepare to move on. After skinning the wolves and searching the corpse of the Wolfmaster for any items of value, the group pondered the fork in the road that they had come to. As they did, from both directions came a scream, one very much like that of a scared little girl and the other, which sounded much closer and seemed a facsimile thereof, though it was noticeably, specifically to the trained ears of Fletcher Highwater, different. Now, the decision… take a chance on Fletcher’s instincts and trek much deeper into the woods, or check out the much closer option in hopes that the girl is not too far away.

As the others interrogate the hexxer, I walked over to the stone slab where we first saw the girl figure. I pull out my pipe and begin to smoke and ponder, looking around for any clues that might be there. Though I thought I had seen something, it turns out that it was nothing. Just as I finished, I turn to see the hexxer wriggle free of his hand bonds, grab his knife and cut his throat. With no more obtainable knowledge we head deeper into the woods. We come across a narrow path that is covered in webbing that is hard to see through. We notice a short path to the right that seemed to be hidden that would have allowed us to avoid the fight with the hexxer. Dorkus walks closer to the webbing and peers through the webbing. It seems as though as he has spotted something on the other side. He crept quietly up to the webbing. He signals us to move forward, but quietly. We creep forward and I see a couple wolves around a camp, chewing on the corpses of some dead bodies. The lot of the group decided to surprise the enemy whilst they eat, but I would much rather run in with my axe cocked, ready to cleave some heads.

Jacques press two fingers onto his forehead and with the other hand points two fingers at the wolf and fires a bolt of energy at one of the wolves. The bolt hits the wolf and severally wounds the wolf. At that moment, Whist forms some sort of ball of energy and lobs it at another of the wolfs. Unfortunately, it falls short of the sleeping wolf and scorches of the ground. Dorkus cast one of his spells, causing a whirlpool to form between two wolves chewing on a corpse. One of the wolves is thrown from the body and killed instantly as it hits the ground. The other wolf was, however, untouched by the spell. Wanting my axe to taste blood once again and to put fear into these wolves, I strut towards the wolves with my axe resting on my shoulder. I hear another bolt of energy fly by but miss the same wolf that was hit by the first and another ball of energy flies and hits the wolf it missed the first time. The wolves now startled by the attacks, rise and head towards us. Two of the wolf come for me and one of them bites me and latches onto my arm while the other tries to bites at my right arm, but I was able to pull away in time. The wolf that has me in his jaws tries to pull me towards his pack, but I plant my feet and pull against him standing firm. Just then, two much larger and hungrier wolfs come woods. The wolfs from the north see me as a formidable meal and run at me. One bites and chomps at my foot while the other claws at me but barely misses. I take my axe from its resting place on my shoulder as I hear from behind me a sputtering noise as Dorkus shouts in rage, “DANG IT!” I heave my axe at the wolf that has grab of my arm, but the wolf anticipates my attack and dodges the blow. As my axe hits the ground, a goblin on a wolf comes charging and screaming out of the forest. A wolf close to me, hears the goblin and proceeds to bite my arm and leaves some bite marks but not enough to injure me.

The wolves, full of hunger with the voice of their master behind them, come at us with fury in their steps. Whist and Dorkus move forward in hopes to take out several of the wolves, but are soon overwhelmed. As I swung my axe to take out the last of the smaller wolves around me, Whist and Dorkus both let out shouts of pain. I come to the aid of Whist, cleaving the wolf’s head from it’s body. Then I turned and charged at the wolf that had Dorkus in it’s jaws, rending the wolf’s body in two. Just as my axe’s blade hit’s the ground, a wall of fire erupts between us and the Goblin wolf-master. Glaring at us through the flames, he jumps off his wolf and heads towards Jacques. Jacques spots the goblin and fires bolts of energy at the goblin, eventually kill the master with one major blow forcing his body to fall into the flames. With their master dead and smoldering in the flames, the wolves become unorganized and confused, making it easier for us to destroy the rest of them.

As the final wolf fell, Whist calms the wall of flames, leaving scorched scar on the land of the battle that had just finished. I wondered over to the ashes of the goblin that was in the flames. Through ash and smell I was able to recover a small pouch that had a horrendous odor coming from it. Braving the smell, I reached in to find a few coins of gold and such in it. The others gathered up the wolf carcasses and skinned them for their pelts and put them in my pack to carry. We prepared to set off again to find the little girl, Dorkus put a stiff ear to the wind and heard some cries coming from both the south and the east. Both sounded urgent, but he said that the east cries sound more like the sounds of a little girl in need of help.

After traveling a couple days, we make it to the Sigilan Woods. As we enter into the woods, we spot a little girl surrounded by wolfs. The half-elf and the elf both notice that the girl is the daughter of the magistraight. Dorkus did notice that there was something shiny about the wolfs but nothing else. While the three of them continued to discuss the situation, I grew tired of the talking and shouted to the others, “While you men discuss your fancies of what wolves are, my axe and I thirst for battle!” and I charges in. As I charge in, all the creatures and the girl begin to shimmer and swirl. The creatures turn into several goblins and a some beetles. The girl becomes a goblin, who turns and jumps off the rock and yells, “Get them!” as he runs away. As he runs, he fires a bolt of light at my face, blinding me. Even as I am blinded, I still thirst for battle and swing my axe at the area of the rock and hit something. The axe swings and hits something and feels like it pierces flesh. I shift to the side as my vision returns back to me and I see a bloody beetle in the area that I had swung. The goblins attack me and several miss, and just as they do, Jacques attacks and damages me and slides me closer to the rest of them. My feet come to a stop just as a water phalange hits me by Dorkus’ hand.

The hexer casts a spell that causes a cloud to appear. I want his head and charge into the cloud to take him out but unfortunately miss him. He shifts out of cloud and out of my vision. Just as his hand leaves from my vision another goblin appears in the cloud and stabs at me with his short sword. I tried to get away but was unable to dodge his hit. From outside the cloud I hear a rumble and a bright flash hits the cloud and flies over head. I turn down to see that the goblin has left the cloud as I hear the sound of battle outside of my vision. Wanting more that just sound, I leave the cloud to find a beetle and the goblin standing there. I raise my axe in the air and hack and hew at the two of them causing major damage to the beetle and killing the goblin. As I swing at the goblin the beetle burrows under ground and out of my sight only to be left again alone. Out of the corner of my eye I see the hexer heading towards the trees. I charge towards him, my axe pull back above my head, screaming a blood curdling scream as I draw near. As my feet plant before him, axe pulled taught as about the cleave him in two, the hexer drops to his knees and begs for surrender. I turn my head to see Jacques behind being attacked by the two beetles. He is able to kill one and the other is destroyed by Whist.

Knowing that the others would want interrogate him for information, I pull out my rope and bind the hexer hands and feet, readying him to be questioned.

Chapter 1 - Freeport and the Magistrate's Daughter ((PART 2))
Welcome to the Sigilan Woods

We met up with the four adventurers as they were nearing the most travelled enrtance into the Sigilan Woods, two days following their leaving of Freeport. As they approached the entrance to the forest at large, they stumbled upon the scene of the magistrate’s daughter, Saria, trapped upon a large stone table, surrounded by several Timberwolves and being defended by two large dogs, who stood growling, at her side, also on the table.

The party tarried only a moment, unseen, to see if the scene was a rous, since this seemed a little to good to be true; that they had found Saria so quickly. Fletcher could swear that there seemed to be something amiss with the wolves themselves, not to mention a few oddities in the tone of the setting. Jaques also realized that there was something magical afoot, but was unsure as to its nature. However, not wishing that any harm come to their charge, Grondar hurried to her rescue.

As Grondar neared the table, greataxe raised in the young girl’s defense, the scene did prove to be an illusion; skillfully crafted by a Goblin Hexer, who had been impersonating the girl. The party immediately rose to arms as the illusion broke: the wolves turned out to be Goblin Cutters and the dogs defending the girl were, in fact, Leafcutter Beetles which are native to the Sigilan Woods.

The battle left the halved, exploded, and twitching bodies of the assailing Goblins strewn to and fro about the battelfield, and after chasing down the fleeing hexer Grondar frightened him so badly that he pissed himself and surrendered. The party suffered only minor wounds and abrasions from the fight, and stopped to rest for a moment. Now, what to do with the hexxer…

Grondar's Adventure Log - Boos and Beginnings.

I spent several hours today at the local bar in Freeport, drinking against Dorkus, after having just come back from fighting off some wolves that had been attacking some travelers. Dorkus thought that this time he might be able to hold his liquor better than a dwarf, but once again he was wrong. As Dorkus laid on the ground in a drunken stoop, I left to help the bar maid grab another cask of ale. While in the back, I heard the door to the bar slam open and some desperate pleas with Dorkus coming from the front. As I came to the front, there stood a man at the bar, out of breath, asking Dorkus for protection from some men that were after him. We offered to help the man and just as we did, several of the towns guards came into the bar demanding for the man. The man dropped a bag of coins on the counter and rushed into the back room. I jumped onto the counter and began asking questions as to why they wanted the man. They didn’t offer any answers, rather they wanted a fight, so we gave it to them. Lashing about, I knocked out several of the guards with while Dorkus handled a couple as well. Nearing the end of the group, several more came in and attacked us as well. We were nearing the end of the group when the captain of the guard came in and ordered the halting of his men. He asked us several questions about who started the fight and where the man was. After a few minutes of discussion, we handed over the man, who was dragged from the back by the barmaid unconscious.

As they left, Dorkus and I got one more drink in before we went out into the streets to hang signs looking for new recruits to our company. Dorkus, after hanging one sign, became tired from the fight and returned to the bar to get a short rest while I continued to hang the signs. A few moments later, Dorkus returned to continue hanging signs but soon became tired again. I didn’t want any of his excuses so I forced him to hang the signs and I kept a close eye on him. As he hung the signs, I went over to the market and talked to one of the venders that I had help out previously and bought an apple from him. He gave me the apple free of charge for helping him out when he was on the road.

Just a Dorkus finished hanging the last sign and headed towards me, a man dressed in black attire and his face covered with black cloth, appears out of nowhere. He tells us that his master has a job that he would like us to perform for him. I asked if there was any money in it and he tosses me a bag with gold in it. I look at the man for a bit and we agree to follow him to where his master is. He takes us to a mercenary office where inside we are greeted by a man sitting in a chair behind a desk and 2 other men, a half-elf and an elf. The man tells us that the majestraight’s daughter has gone missing and that he needs someone of our talents to go and retrieve her. He tells us that we would be paid handsomely for the job and that other things might come as well if we return with her safely. I have no need to think it over and accept the job, my axe longs for the battlefield. The others had questions they asked and they eventually accepted. We then left the office to talk to the two others that were in the room with us. They tell us their names are Whist and Jacques. I am not sure but something odd about these two doesn’t seem right. I will need to keep a close eye on them until I find out what is so odd about them.
